Pastor: Michael Shannon

Michael Shannon was born in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. In that Muslim nation he was baptized in secrecy into the Roman Catholic religion as an infant. His father was American and mother a Mexican national. Before he was two years old the family left for the United States and moved to El Paso, Texas, were they lived until his eleventh birthday.  Raised a Catholic in his childhood, he pondered the idea of someday becoming a priest. But God had a different plan for his life.  In 1981 the family moved to beautiful state of Colorado, and the city of Greeley.  There they became neighbors with an Adventist Christian family, the Baeza´s. Even at the young age of 11 years old, he could see that there was something different about these Adventist people.  Not long after moving to Colorado the family attended an evangelism series by invitation of their new friends. The speaker, Angel Mendez, often walked through the snow to give the family weekly Bible studies preparing them for baptism. Michael was baptized together the same day with his brother Paul and their mother into the Greeley Spanish SDA Church. For a time in his youth he walked with the Lord. Although his mother gave him a godly influence, he chose to rebel and left the church of his youth for 9 miserable years. On Labor Day weekend at age 24, after several encounters with the Lord, he renounced his wretched ways and was rebaptized in Glacier View Ranch by Pastor Claudio Martin during the Hispanic Camp Meeting. In 1996 he was called to the literature ministry and became a Literature Evangelist in the Rocky Mountain Conference. In 1998 Pastor Armando Miranda motivated him, and he went to Mexico to the University of Montemorelos to study Theology. There he met the girl of his dreams, Alicia, and married her. They have been blessed with three wonderful children: Raquel, Elizabeth, and Michael Jr.

Pastor Shannon has both a bachelors degree in Theology and a masters in Family Relations from the University of Montemorelos. He has served as an associate pastor in Tabasco, Mexico; as Bible worker at the Scottsbluff Spanish church; associate to the evangelist in the Texas Conference and pastored an English congregation in Laredo, TX. For the Rocky Mountain Conference he has pastored Brighton Spanish, Steamboat Springs Spanish, Fruita English, Palisade English, Rifle English, Rifle Spanish, Glenwood Springs English, Olathe Spanish and Montrose Spanish Churches. He is very blessed and counts it as a privilege to serve as pastor of the Greeley SDA Church. God has been very good to Michael and his family.

About Seventh-day Adventists

The Seventh-day Adventist Church is a  Protestant church with approximately 19 million members worldwide, including more than one million members in North America. The Seventh-day Adventist Church seeks to enhance quality of life for people everywhere and to let people know that Jesus is coming again soon.

Adventists believe a Trinity of three persons—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—make up one God. They made salvation possible when Jesus, the Son, came to earth as a baby in Bethlehem and lived a sinless life in accordance with the Father's will. When Jesus was crucified for the sins of the people of the world and arose from the dead on the third day, victory was won for everyone.

When He returned to heaven following the resurrection, Jesus left the Holy Spirit to serve as our Comforter and Counselor. He promised to return to earth a second time to complete His plan of salvation and take His people to heaven. Adventists are among the believers who look forward to that day.

Adventists believe that God is concerned with the quality of human life, and that everything—the way we live, eat, speak, think, treat each other, and care for the world around us—is part of His plan. Our families, our children, our jobs, our talents, our money, and our time are all important to Him.
